Q: What is special about a HERS-rated home?
A: Jordan: HERS-rated homes have a more holistic approach to energy efficiency. The performance-based approach ensures all the energy efficiency measures actually work as intended and the homeowner is getting what they paid for. Unlike prescriptive approaches, a HERS rating allows builders and designers flexibility when working with homeowners and ensures the original design intention is possible.
Q: Why should consumers ask for the HERS® Index Score on homes they are shopping for?
A: Jordan: HERS-rated homes have modeled and tested results. It gives homeowners peace of mind to know what they are actually getting. The HERS index score shows how the home they are shopping for compare to others on the market.
Q: Why does Renew Design + Build choose to have their homes HERS® Rated?
A: Jordan: The Index score allows us to be set apart from the basic builders around town. We can showcase our builds as actually better and more efficient.
Q: Why consumers should expect energy-efficient homes?
A: Jordan: An energy-efficient home clearly helps with monthly expenses but it also gives a more resilient, nd durable and comfortable home. These items all seem like prerequisites to us but unfortunately, the industry does not. If you want durability long term, resiliency in the storm, and comfort during extreme weather, energy efficiency is the way.
Q: How many homes do you build with HERS® per year?
A: Jordan: This year we have built 3 homes, 2 full retrofits.
Q: How do you market HERS® Rated homes?
A: Jordan: Our baseline construction goals of ENERGY STAR set the stage for our marketing. Once we have our clients’ attention we help them see the means of achieving this goal – the HERS Index score.
Q: How do your customers feel about HERS® Rated homes?
A: Jordan: Our customers appreciate the transparency and peace of mind knowing what they are getting. It allows us to work together to achieve the goal of energy efficiency while maintaining design features and influences the client is looking for.
Q: Which rating company(s) do you partner with and what would you like to share about your partnership?
A: Jordan: We work with Southern Energy Management to achieve ENERGY STAR certification, including a 5000-square-foot build in progress.
