In this month’s feature, we asked Southern Creek Homes’ Vice President of Marketing and Sales Charles Stover to share some insight on building HERS® homes for their customers.
Q: What is special about a HERS® Rated home?
A: Charles: A HERS® Rated home provides today’s buyer with confidence that their home has been tested and proven to be energy efficient. Built with energy savings in mind, it helps the consumer to have confidence when purchasing not just a promise, but an actually tested certification. Tying historic data and showing people how much better their HERS® rated home is, as opposed to a home years ago, brings in a great human element.
Q: Why should consumers ask for the HERS® Index Score on homes they are shopping for?
A: Charles: A HERS® Index Score will indicate to the buyers that the home they are purchasing has been built with quality and energy efficiency in mind. Knowing that the score stands for as long as the home exists, allows them to know that they have a strong value proposition in their future sale, as well.
Q: Why does Southern Creek Homes choose to have their homes HERS® Rated?
A: Charles: Southern Creek Homes has each home HERS® rated so it not only gives buyers peace of mind, but to ensure better resale value for them in the future and to build higher quality homes with more eco-friendly materials. How could we not give our customers such an incredible energy efficiency package and also have a rating to verify it?
Q: Why consumers should expect energy-efficient homes?
A: Charles: Building energy efficient homes allows future generations to benefit by having a lower cost of living, better air quality and an all around better quality of life. We should all embrace sustainable energy and products, because it not only assures this year’s quality built homes, but also future generations.
Q: How many homes does Southern Creek Homes build with HERS® per year?
A: Charles: 100% of the homes we build have a HERS® rating!! We will surpass our previous record for most homes sold this year and that means we will have 7 homes with HERS® rating in an area that has never had 1!
Q: How do you market HERS® Rated homes?
A: Charles: We leverage social media to highlight the fact that we use HERS® ratings on every home. Each home has our HERS® score posted on a 3×3 board that is proudly displayed as you walk into each entryway or prominent space. We let each customer that we talk to know that we are part of a new wave of builders that not only say they provide an incredible energy efficiency package, but prove it with a HERS® rating.
Q: How do your customers feel about HERS® Rated homes?
A: Charles: Customers have been very pleased to know that we not only say that we have high quality energy efficient homes, but use the HERS® rating to show the energy efficiency actualized. Each customer knows that when they get their first electric bill they are in for a treat and it makes them happy, and also tell their friends.
